Alaska Trip

Free Fishing Trip to Alaska
Paradox Sports has two scholarships available for a week-long trip to Alaska during this summer. While there you will:

 * Fly in a floatplane into a remote Alaskan river

* Raft through some of the best wilderness salmon fishing the world has to offer

* Work with a river guide who has had 35 years of wilderness guiding experience in the region (you can check out his website at www.wildriverfish.com)

To learn more about what the trips are like please visit: http://www.paradoxsports.org/progams/wild-river-fish/
So who can go? You need to be able to:

*Love to fish and it is helpful if you are interested in flyfishing (they can teach you how; all that is required is a willingness and desire)

*You need to embrace the concept of an adventure in a wilderness setting. It might be raining and windy. You might have to hunker down for a day or two to wait out a storm and there are always mosquitoes.

*You have to be willing to help around camp to whatever ability you can

*You need to be reasonably self-sufficient in terms of transfers, bathroom issues, and getting in and out of tents, etc.

They have 2 slots open for 2 people with disabilities and 2 companions. They will completely cover the cost, including airfare, for the disabled participant and they’ll cover the Alaskan costs for the companion, if needed.

Please call Paradox Sports to learn more at (303) 500-3316 or visit their website at:

Volunteer needed

We are looking for a volunteer to pick up bagels and pastries on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday between 8:45-9:00 pm.  The pick up location is Panera Bread on 77th and Wadsworth.  This person would deliver the bakery items to KADEP the following day (Thursday) between 7:30-4:30.

Panera Bread generously donates their left over bakery items to KADEP each Wednesday night.  We use bagels, danishes and other items at breakfast which helps us with food costs.

Please let Ginny Wagner know if you are willing to help us out by picking up bagels/pastries even just one Wednesday a month.

Ginny's contact info is: 303-433-6887 or gwagner@mscenter.org

Thank you!

Snowflakes Apon My Face... Deana Cooper

Can you hear it?
No?
Allow me to help
Lie back, head apon the pillow

Can you see it?
No?
Allow me to help
As I lit the candle

Can you hear it?
No?
Allow me to help
I opened the window

Can you see it?
No?
Allow me to help
I pulled open the curtains.

Can you hear it?
Aw yes
the wind, ruffled the screen,
blew cold snowflakes upon my face

Can you see it?
Aw yes
the candle, danced shadows,
of snowflakes upon my face

-Deana Cooper

Meet John, Social Work Intern

Hi! I'm John and I'm a Masters of Social Work intern with KADEP this year. I'm a student with the University of Denver. I am from a little city in Northern Utah called Logan and a graduate of Utah State University. I am enjoying exploring Colorado, especially the big city of Denver. I have worked in different behavioral health settings including community inpatient units, drug and alcohol treatment, and psychiatric crisis units. I have also assisted in a severe behavior clinic prior to coming to KADEP. I'm very much enjoying my time here and think that we have an amazing mix of individuals who participate. I am learning so much from participants in the program. I love sports, particularly basketball, hiking, backpacking, camping, and family time. I look forward to continuing my time with the KADEP family.
