Farewell, Claire

KADEP said goodbye to Claire on Friday May 15th. Claire has been a participant at KADEP since 1991!
Claire will be moving out of state to be closer to her family.
We will truly miss her friendly and welcoming smile around KADEP.
Claire hopes to keep in touch through the blog and via email.
We will miss you, Claire! We wish you all the best:)

KADEP appreciates Volunteers!

Pictured are just a handful of the many amazing volunteers at the Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon at KADEP.

  • in 2008, KADEP had 276 volunteers, who dedicated their time and efforts to help make KADEP the special place it is. They logged a total of 6,977 hours!

  • Many of the volunteers have formed a special connection with the participants and come back on a regular basis.

  • KADEP would also like to thank the volunteer coordinators, Michelle and Jessi, for spending time orienting the volunteers and making sure they have a truly memorable experience.

  • To all volunteers, we appreciate you, and couldn't do it without you!

Cooling vest ice packs

Warm weather is here!
We understand that people with MS can be heat sensitive. Many of you have cooling vests to help cool your body in the summer.
Usually, we have extra ice packs at KADEP, so that you can switch out your ice packs for cold ones during the afternoon.
We are VERY low on spare ice packs. If you have ice packs you accidentally took home or any spare ice packs that you could donate, it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Summer Sun Caution

A friendly reminder from our caring nursing department:

  • If you are enrolled in any Summer class that takes place outside, such as Outdoor Activities, Golf-4-Fun, Summer Sports, Horticulture, Walk & Get Fit and Tennis, it is important to carry sunscreen with you at all times.

  • It’s a good idea for EVERY PARTICIPANT to carry sunscreen even if you are not enrolled in outside classes. We all enjoy time on the deck or lawn and it takes no time at all to burn.

MS Walk

  • Pictured is "Team Ms. J" dedicated to raising money to fight MS in honor of KADEP client Jackie "Ms. J" Carroll.

  • Jackie's daughter, Ivy (top left), organized a team in California and raised $1000 to participate in the National MS Society's MS WALK.

  • Way to go "Team Ms. J"!

  • Other participants in the Denver MS WALK include: Pam Vigil, who teaches a yoga class at KADEP each week and KADEP participants, Sharol and Leandro!

  • Thank you all for the support!

Summer Semester is here!

We are excited to begin the new semester on Monday, May 11th!

Remember, your name will be on the big white boards, where you can check to see which groups you are in.

Like previous semesters, there is a two-week add/drop period for groups. If you are unhappy with your assigned group, talk with Ginny about switching.

Some groups have a small fee attached. Your group leader will contact you regarding the amount and due date.

A HUGE thank you goes out to KADEP's program director, Ginny (pictured above), who each semester works diligently on registering and assigning participants to their desired groups. KADEP takes great pride in offering an abundant variety of therapeutic classes each day. With about 60 clients per day, KADEP's programming staff designs new and exciting classes each semester. There is always something for everyone!

MS Cooling Products

Summer is almost here!
Now is the time to dig out your cooling vest!
Many people with multiple sclerosis are heat sensitive. MS research has proven that heat and humidity often aggravate common MS symptoms. MS research has also proven that cooling the body can help lessen the negative effects of heat and humidity on a person with MS.

If you have questions on how to acquire cooling products (vests with ice packs, bandannas, seat coolers) talk to Laura Hartman.
