KADEP Reminders

The deadline for the KADEP surveys is approaching. Each KADEP participant and their caregiver should have received a satisfaction survey via mail.  If you could please fill them out and return them to KADEP, we would greatly appreciate it.  Your feedback is important to us!

Also, winter weather is here!  In the event of a winter storm, please check this blog or call our main # 303-433-6887 to hear if we are having a snow day.  You can also check 9news for a list of closures.

The Haunted House is suggested for children ages 8 and older.

This event will be similar to the one last year.  It is open to the neighborhood and community.  There will be food, candy, costumes, games, a bouncy castle and much more fun!

KADEP's Flag Raising Ceremony

KADEP recently acquired two new flags- The Flag of the United States of America and the Colorado State Flag.

These flags were flown over the United States Capitol at the request of Senator Mark Udall for the Rocky Mountain MS Center Community.

A special thanks to Senator Udall, KADEP volunteer and group leader, Dean, and the "Colorado Then & Now" group.

BOEC SKI TRIP – 11/28/-11/30

Attention KADEP Clients. It is that time again to sign up for the winter camping trip. Once again we will be going skiing with the BOEC. The camping trip is scheduled for Nov. 28th, 29th and 30th.The price of the trip is $135. If you are interested please sign up as soon as possible at the front by Sharon’s desk. Four-legged Medicine Helps Children Be Children Again

Check out the link below to see KADEP staffperson, Chris Dunbar, his wife and dog in a 9News story. It’s about YAPS, or Youth and Pet Survivors, a program that pairs children battling cancer with dogs and cats facing the same challenge. They communicate as pen-pals and share life experiences.

Egg Drop

Amanda's Team Building group did an egg drop last week.  The group divided into 4 teams.  The goal was to create a structure that prevents an egg from breaking when dropped from 10 feet.  Each team got straws, newspaper, and tape.  Each team created their structure and developed a team name.  The names were:

Three of the teams dropped their egg successfully from 10 feet without breaking.  Only one team's egg broke after the fall.  Congrats to all teams for working together and having a blast.  Great group, Amanda and Tom!

KADEP Celebrates One Year on new campus

Can you believe it was a year ago today that KADEP opened it's doors to clients at the new building?  Today, KADEP celebrated their one year anniversary at the new campus and recognized the existence of our program for the last 20 years.  Each KADEP participant and staff member received a certificate and carnation, acknowledging their loyalty and commitment to this amazing program.  We currently have 6 active participants who have been part of the KADEP family for 20 years.  Each of these six received a special 20 year pin.  Those who have attended for 20 years are:

KADEP has grown in size and has made a positive difference to many lives of those living with MS and other neurological illnesses in the last 20 years.  Our goal is to keep improving these lives and to continue to grow our program.

One way we are growing, not only in numbers of the KADEP family, but also via new business ideas and ventures.  Karl Dakin, Director of the John J. Sullivan Free Enterprise Chair at Regis University, gave a presentation this afternoon after a lovely BBQ on the back patio.

A special thank you to Jeff, who provided musical entertainment during our BBQ lunch to help us celebrate our One year anniversary.

KADEP Participant, John Hester, respresented the KADEP Enterprise Group at the Rocky Mountain MS Center Board meeting last week.  John and the KADEP Enterprise Group is creating a business plan and starting new business ventures.   Stay tuned for more news regarding this business venture... way to go John!

Colorado Adult Day Services Week

KADEP has been recognized for the work they provide as an adult day services provider for the community.

Special events on Wed. Sept 28th at KADEP

KADEP is celebrating their One Year Anniversary at the Vista Grande Campus!

A year ago on Sept 28th, KADEP opened their doors to the participants.  So much hard work, love and energy has gone into making this one of the best years ever in KADEP history.  We have grown in size, and are now averaging 63.8 clients per day.  This is outstanding and was part of the future vision for KADEP as we moved locations.  We continue to have room to grow our KADEP family, partner with other community organizations and we are close to getting the building paid off. 

We will be celebrating our One Year Anniversary on Sept 28th at 10:30 am.  Can't wait to celebrate and acknowledge every one that has been a part of this wonderful program throughout the years.

We will also welcome Karl Dakin, Director of the John J. Sullivan Free Enterprise Chair at Regis University,on Wed. Sept 28 at 1:30. His subject is innovative social enterprise. The KADEP Enterprises group welcomes this "kick-off" presentation, as we continue to move The Rocky Mountain MS Center and KADEP forward in the future.

Your attendance at KADEP is IMPORTANT!
Beginning with the month of September we have a goal to have over 60 participants attend the program everyday. It is critical that we not only continue to grow the program, facing our current Medicaid cuts, but to get KADEP participants to show up for their scheduled days.  We understand that 100% attendance is challenging, however we ask that try your best to schedule appointments on days that you do not attend the program.  If you are sick, have a medical appointment, or have other reasons for being asbent, please let Maria know, so we know that you are OK.  Each participant is  part of the KADEP family,and we look forward to having you on your schedule days!

 If we accomplish this goal…Let’s have a party!

It will be a group effort to reach 60 plus participants each day.  Keep an eye on the blog to see how well we are doing.  Thank you in advance for your attendance and continuing to be a part of the KADEP family!

Angelyne, the Amazing Deaf Cattle Dog Performs for KADEP

Angelyne, an Australian Cattle Dog was born bi-laterally deaf. Thanks to Angelyne’s exceptional intelligence and the dedication of her owner, Eric Melvin, she knows and responds to over 40 different hand signals and non-verbal commands. Regarding their afternoon performance, Angelyne’s story of perseverance was inspirational and it was passionately communicated by Eric to the KADEP community. Following Eric’s speech, Angelyne performed many tricks including jumping through four hula hoops. The show ended with clients getting a chance to pet Angelyne and get a photo taken with her. The clients and staff of KADEP were very happy with Angelyne and Erik’s visit and want to thank them again for coming out and giving us a great show. Thanks again Angelyne and Erik!!!

TEAM KADEP climbs Mt. Evans for MS4MS Fundraiser

Congrats to TEAM KADEP for summiting Mt. Evans on August 13th!  TEAM KADEP is still raising money for the Rocky Mountain MS Center's annual fundraiser Multiple Summits for Multiple Sclerosis (MS4MS)
