"Colorado's Only Open Bagpiper" visits KADEP

KADEP was lucky enough to have its first bagpipe concert last Friday, June 10th. Ben Holmes, “Colorado’s Only Open Bagpiper”, has been playing the bagpipe for several decades. For the All Things Scottish group, Ben played a large number of songs for a very attentive audience of KADEP participants. Between songs, Ben talked of Scottish folklore as well as taught the audience about the intricacies of the Scottish Great Bagpipe. Ben is an extremely talented bagpiper and public speaker. The KADEP participants loved the show whether they were laughing at his jokes or listening to his jamming.

Thanks for coming out Ben!

Ben offers private bagpipe lessons as well as teaches several local area bagpipe bands. Please click below if you are interested.

Memorial Day Poem Written by KADEP Client, Michael Wade Hancey

Memorial Day Poem

When we celebrate Memorial Day you should always rememeber to give a special acknowledgement to those individuals who have given their lives to America a free nation, America is filled with quite a few people in the world's population.  So many citizens in this nation give humble admiration to the blessing of living in this free nation!!

When we have a national celebration for these heroes, we need to show unto them our mark of respect and gratitude for being our heroes, you never know, over the years your foremost hero may turn out to be our baby bro!

On Memorial Day and any day when you behold the American flag flying in the wind, you should always praise and honor those who are so kind to devote their lives to help make that flag fly free in the wind for you and me!

We must tribute a rememberance to Christopher Columbus who willingly sailed the ocean blue, and landed on the American continent which is now home for me and you!

We must esteem and give tribute to the armed forces of our nation today, for being so mighty and brave, showing other nations how they should behave; we compliment the armed forces for being so mighty and brave!

HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY!!!
WE LOVE YOU AMERICAN!!!
GOD BLESS THE USA!!!

KADEP gets a new TV from Cupcake Fundraiser!

We have exciting news!  KADEP purchased a brand new 55 inch flat screen TV with the money from the Cupcake Fundraiser.

Do you remember in February, when KADEP sold over $2,500 worth of cupcakes?  We received 50% of the fundraising profits from Angelina at the Cupcakery

With the profits, KADEP recently purchased a brand new TV for the Great Room!  We will be using the TV for entertainment, movie groups, and Nintendo Wii groups, just to name a few.

Thank you to everyone who sold, purchased, and ate cupcakes!

Twin Day!

Laura (Social Services Coordinator) and Alex (Registered Nurse) celebrate Twin Day at KADEP!

Welcome Therapeutic Recreation Interns, Amanda and Rachel!

Amanda:

As an outdoor enthusiast, I have always been drawn to the mountains. In 2009 I learned about the therapeutic recreation program at Metro State, packed my bags and headed west from Peoria, Illinois to complete a bachelors degree. I enjoy hiking, camping, boating, snowboarding, and climbing. I love music, go to shows, play the hand drum and listen to records as often as I can. Ultimately, I am a people person and enjoy a great conversation. Through Metro State I learned a lot about KADEP and I’m so glad to have landed here. I already feel at home and I’m excited for the eventful summer to come!

Rachel:

I moved to Colorado from State College, Pennsylvania to Intern at KADEP. I attend Penn State Main Campus studying Therapeutic Recreation. I’ve lived in PA all my life and so far, the weather is much nicer here in Colorado! I love the outdoors. I have a German Shepherd named Max at home and I take him year round to run and swim in the State Game Lands. In the summer, I look forward to camping and backpacking trips. In the winter, I ski (when I have time). I’m an avid reader and have a hard time putting a book down once I’ve started it. I’m looking forward to an awesome summer filled with fun here at KADEP!

KADEP welcomes Amanda and Rachel.  They will be with us all summer!  Introduce yourself to them.

Hundreds of bees in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn,
But only one mother the wide world over.
