National Volunteer Week

Debby Laurita has been volunteering with KADEP since March 2017 and has truly made a huge impact here. Debby decided to volunteer at KADEP because her daughter, a past client, passed away in 2015, and Debby knew that KADEP was the place she wanted to “give back” to. Debby has contributed hundreds of hours and has helped out in groups, reorganized several of KADEP’s unruly storage areas, and decorates the KADEP store seasonally. Debby even volunteered on an overnight camping trip. While our receptionist was on maternity leave, she filled in at the front desk. Most importantly she meets every person at KADEP with unmatched kindness and compassion.

Debby says that each and every client is very special to her and she tries to make one on one time with as many clients as possible every day. Debby feels that after years of caregiving for her daughter she “gets it,” and can relate to many of the challenges that the clients also face. Debby says, “No matter what kind of day I might be having, all I have to do is pull into the KADEP parking lot and my mood soars.” She recommends volunteering at KADEP because it has been a humbling experience, bringing out the best in her, and she even says that she can’t live without it. She thinks it will do the same for everyone who wants to be a part of this “family.” Needless to say, clients and staff alike are inspired daily to live life a little more like Debby.
